2013 LA Calendar Motorcycle Show Report

The 22nd edition of the annual LA Calendar Motorcycle Show marked its return to the Queen Mary Seawalk Village in Long Beach, California with hometown boy Sam Baldi taking the Bike Building Championship’s Best of Show trophy with a Jimmy Todorovith/Profile Cycles built Big Twin custom named “Lost Angel.” This year’s Calendar Show showcased not only top builders but selected vendors and exhibitors, and of course the Calendar Girl Music live performances. And as always, this year’s show celebrated the world premiere of the 2014 FastDates.com Motorcycle PinUp Calendars, featuring the world’s top SBK World Superbikes, sport and cafe bikes, and custom motorcycles with the beautiful Calendar Kittens. On hand throughout the day to meet with fans and pose for pictures were Calendar Kittens Apple Price, together with official SBK World Superbike grid girls Jessica Harbour and singer/songwriter Sarah Horvath.

Motorcycle.com’s own Kevin Duke recently took a tour of Erik Buell’s “little” garage where Buell motorcycles are dreamed up and created and it looks like a mighty fine place to work! The Buell factory is a quite small operation but quite technically advanced, using high-tech testing facilities and computer programs to design, build, and test out their bikes.  There’s only 170 people on staff! EBR First American Sportbike To Score Points In WSBK, Makes History

The EBR 1190RX had its best finish to date in the FIM Superbike World Championship (WSBK) series during the only US round at Laguna Seca in Salinas, Calif., this past weekend. In an exciting twist, the wild card entry of Larry Pegram running the #72 Foremost Insurance/EBR/AMSOIL/Hero entry garnered a 14th place finish in the second race, earning the first-ever WSBK points for an American motorcycle manufacturer.  [In actuality, Pegram's EBR crossed the line in 16th place. However, the two Bimota BB3 entries who finished eighth and ninth with riders Ayrton Badovini and Christian Iddon, respectively, have had their finishes nullified all season because Bimota has not met the FIM's homologation requirements.
