BSA Thunderbolt description

1966 BSA 650 Thunderbolt, titled 1967. (They were often titled in the year they were sold) I found this as a project that had been shelved and was stored in the back of a barn, partly in boxes. The engine was rebuilt and completely assembled when I found the bike, the frame still had the original paint, however the tins had all been sandblasted and were dusted in a light layer of surface rust when I found them. The chrome on the gas tank could not be saved so it got this great two tone paint job instead.

This is an original numbers matching bike with the larger gas tank and 4-spring clutch that were common to that year, both original equipment. I replaced the pea shooter exhaust with some louder silencers but no modifications to the frame or exhaust pipes were made for this. The new silencers mounted up to the factory tabs so the original silencers can be re-installed later with no trouble, the new pipes sound very nice however. I will include the original silencers in the sale.

This bike is more a preservation than a restoration, but has been well preserved with only the paint being new. Other than that it is all original equipment and quite an attention getter! It usually starts on the second kick and runs and drives excellent!

There are some small areas of light corrosion such as the control levers and headlight basket but the rest of the bike is virtually corrosion free, which is unusual for a bike this age.

Please look at all of the photos and ask questions BEFORE making offer.

The bike is being sold where is/as is. Buyer assumes responsibility for transport and related costs. I can keep the bike here for up to 30 days to allow buyer to arrange for transport. After 30 days modest storage fees will apply.

Buyer, upon winning auction must make $1,000. none refundable deposit via PayPal within 24 hours of auction close, with the balance being wired to my account or paid in cash in person upon pickup. Anyone able to visit and see the bike in person is welcome. Please message me for directions.

Thanks for looking!
