BSA Rocket 3 tech info
BSA Rocket 3 description
This listing is for an original matching numbers 1969 BSA Rocket 3 which I have personally owned for over 25 years. I am the 2nd owner. Since I purchase this bike I have completely rebuilt it. After the rebuild I rode the bike for a few seasons (summer only) and then put it away to pursue other projects. At the time of the rebuild the bike was re painted and with the exception of a few small rock chips the paint still looks outstanding! This bike has all the original parts with the exception of the horns which I replaced with louder Fiam units and the ignition system which I replace with a Lucas Rita unit Having recently decided it is time to downsize our home I find I reluctantly need to pass this lovely classic on to someone else to ride and enjoy. After sitting for so long in my garage I wasn't sure if it would start but I checked fluid levels, changed plugs, installed a battery, added fuel, tickled the carbs and gave it a kick. It started right up and once warmed settled into a steady idle! The clutch was stuck from sitting so long and I have since freed it up but the adjustment still needs some fine tuning. I have always found the clutch action to be rather heavy (a common complaint with the triples) but I understand there are some modern fixes for this problem. The motor runs very strong and has that lovely triple howl from the original exhaust and mufflers. This is not a trailer queen but a lovely classic that I rebuilt to ride, so with that in mind there are a few things below to take note of. As mentioned earlier there are a few rock chips. There is some fraying of the white piping around the edge of the seat but after all it is the original seat! The tachometer appears not to be working which I believe is just a cable issue but I haven't had time to delve deeper. There is a hairline crack in the outer primary cover where the lower counter sunk screw holds it on (this is a known weak point with the triples). When I rebuilt the bike I had this area repaired but it seems to have come back so the primary will weep oil occasionally at this point until it is repaired again. I have tried to describe this motorcycle with words and pictures to the best of my ability but having said that there is of course no warranty intended or implied. If you are familiar with these classic triples or any of the other classic bikes for that matter you know that they require regular maintenance to perform properly. Included in the sale of the bike is the original tool kit (rare!) as well as the original workshop manual and parts book. Happy bidding! As far as payment, I request a $500.00 non refundable down payment at close of auction with the balance due within 7 days. Once final payment is received I will supply buyer with a bill of sale and the title (currently in my name). I will accept PayPal (if I have to), wire transfer, e-transfer or cash. Shipping is the responsibility of the purchaser but I will work with you to make that as pain free as possible. Of course local pickup would be best. Please contact me with any questions prior to bidding. Thanks for looking. |

Man Builds Sidecar from Bathtub
Thu, 23 Apr 2009Back in 1997, an unusual motorcycle appeared on the front page of the Bristol Evening Post. Unable to afford a costly traditional sidecar, bus driver Alan Iles of Bedminster opted to build his own, using a bathtub. Twelve years later, the 1959 650cc BSA is still going and has been ridden all over Europe to help raise money for Cancer research and various charities, for which he has raised thousands of British pounds.
