Information of Rocket Goldstar

The final and most exciting of BSA's long line of pre-unit 646cc parallel twins,  which started with the Golden Flash back in 1949, launched in Feb 1962 comes the mighty Rocket Goldstar.  Production with 1584 bikes of which 272 were off road scramblers.  With a specially tuned A10 Super Rocket engine in the well proven BSA Goldstar frame, BSA created a very fast bike for the time with good handling that became an instant classic.   9:1 compression Super Rocket engine was used with a Spitfire performance camshaft and an Amal Mono carburetor gave 46 bhp as standard.  Options as this unit, with two into one exhaust pipes , close-ratio RRT2 gearbox, Aluminum alloy rims, Daytona front hub could increase to 50 bhp and add 30% to the price.  Nine specials were made for export to California.

Some Histories

This particular bike based on VIN - GA101622 is only 18 numbers after the one sold in Silverstone Auction in 2011. Most likely similar assembly line that left the BSA factory in Birmingham.

The piece of history to this bike is a vintage photo ( see video ) of it raced on the track by previous owner J. Serra using a 500cc Goldstar engine.  Photo included in sale.

The owner after J. Serra restored this bike with engine and gear box rebuilt by long time British bike and Goldstar specialist and racer Patrick Dale.  Both ate veterans of Southern California BSA Club members.  Both are very good long time friends I trusted and valued their knowledge and skills.  I own few 500 single clubman trim Goldstars built by these gentleman and all bikes runs excellent and very honest condition. This model is more rare and desired than Single Goldstars. Having some regrets but priorities has shifted.

Details on this Motorcycle

This bike has been cosmetically and mechanically restored down to the wire looms.  It has all the bells and whistles in the options and features:

RRT Close ratio gear box

2 into one weight reduction exhaust

Daytona front hub correct finish

Rearsets & European clubman trims

Aluminum alloy wheels

on/off oil valve shut off to prevent sump issues

No dents on tank or any broken fins

Restored Smith instruments

As demonstrated in videos, all 6 volt electricals are working correctly ,  starts easy, well sorted , shifts good,  runs strong and spark plug inspected after ridding are burning nice and brown. Engine is oil tight , valves and timing is set dead on .  Ridden to 6,000 feet altitudes twice in local mountain alone with confidence and did nicely on freeways to keep up with modern trafic - has photos at mountain restaurant Newcomb's Ranch in Angeles Crest Hwy.  181 break in miles with solid handling . Engine well tuned runs solid, smooth and tight.  Recommend to re check valve adjustment and do 2nd oil change after 500 miles due to break in period.  Tires are good and holds air.  Charging system working great

Clear CA title and registered to Dec 2016 in my name.

Frame number GA101622

Engine number DA10R8777

Original instruction manual included

The Steve McQueen Desert Racer

Tue, 24 Mar 2009

There are few motorcycle icons within pop culture that have endured as vividly as that of the late, great Steve McQueen. A man who was at one time the highest paid actor in Hollywood, he avoided the limelight in favor of immersing himself within his passion for motorcycles. Never afraid of getting dirty, McQueen was at his happiest flogging a bike around the track with fellow racers or tinkering with the machines himself.
