BMW R-Series description

2009 BMW R1200RTP Police Motorcycle

in excellent condition (near perfect), unmolested and with only 25k original miles on it!!!  Previously a Beverly Hills cop bike and recently modified for funeral escorting with 4 additional bright amber LED strobe lights and 4 bright white LED lane splitting lights.  This is a fast, smooth, and comfortable ride that everyone gets out of the way for, when they see you coming.  Great for security, escorting, or just commuting and not having to be worried about not being seen. It has been the best bike I have every had to commute on. I would keep it, but I just got a new job and have almost no commute. This is a beautiful bike, it runs like a dream, and needs nothing, other than a new owner.

 This bike also has:

- All original police red & blue LEDs lights front and rear

- Police whip antenna and cell antenna

- Functioning loud speaker with Wheeler PA and police horn

(with hidden kill switch).

- Metal ticket book holder

IIHS Asks NHTSA to Make ABS Brakes Mandatory for All Street-legal Motorcycles in US

Fri, 07 Jun 2013

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety and the Highway Loss Data Institute have submitted a letter to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration petitioning in favor of making anti-lock brakes mandatory for all new on-highway motorcycles. The letter, addressed to David Strickland, NHTSA administrator, included a recent IIHS study on the effects of ABS on motorcycle fatal crash rates. The report found ABS technology reduces the rate of fatal crashes by 31%, while collision claim rates were 20% lower with ABS-equipped motorcycles.

EICMA 2012: Bimota BB2 Concept Revealed with BMW S1000RR Engine

Fri, 16 Nov 2012

Bimota revealed a new concept sportbike at the 2012 EICMA Show equipped with a BMW S1000RR engine. The Bimota BB2 concept is the first product of a new partnership signed with BMW that would see the German manufacturer supply S1000RR engines for Bimota. The S1000RR engine has class-leading numbers, with the 172.4 hp we measured in our 2012 European Literbike Shootout a 10.4 hp advantage over any literbike we dyno’ed for that shootout or the Japanese Literbike Shootout.

BMW Helps Vertically Challenged

Tue, 02 Dec 2008

No matter where they go or what they do, it seems that people who are vertically challenged always get the ‘short’ end of the stick, pardon the pun. Historically, if a pint-sized person wanted to get into the hobby of motorcycling, their choices were limited to bikes like the Suzuki Marauder, Ninja 250 or HD Sportster (the thought alone makes my back hurt.) BMW Motorrad now has good news for riders who either need or simply prefer a lower seat height, but do not want to compromise on model choice. BMW is the first motorcycle manufacturer to launch a range of models that can be ordered from the factory with lowered suspension – to provide customers with low seat height options.
