BMW R-Series description
This is a beautiful R100S survivor that was loved by 3 documented owners since new. The original owner took the bike to San Jose BMW and had their reinforced swing arm installed as well as having the head dual plugged and a fork brace installed. He kept a meticulous notebook with not only the maintenance records but all the brochures from San Jose and the materials that outline everything he did to the bike. He also had the flywheel lightened and balanced. The notebook is an amazing chronicle of the life of the bike and is included in the sale.
The original owner traded the bike in for a new BMW in the spring of 1991. I have a mileage verification form submitted by A&S BMW at the time the second owner purchased the bike dated May 1991. I also have all the maintenance records from the second owner from whom I purchased the bike last March. Currently she only has 33,514 miles on her, the second owner didn't ride her much. He kept the bike covered in his garage and it would remain unridden for years at a time. Each time he took her out of mothballs he would have the bike serviced (I have these records) and make her safe and ready for a new season. When I purchased the bike it had not been ridden for several years so this spring and summer I undertook a light cosmetic restoration and went through every system to bring the bike back to a beautiful and well sorted state. All of the paint work is original except for the two side covers which I repainted in the correct satin black and replaced the decals. Of course there are some scratches in the original two tone smoke red paint. I have done my best to be sure to get pics of all the imperfections. I replaced the three BMW roundels at that time. I will list below all of the maintenance I did on the bike as well as the special features and any notable items. Maintenance:
Special Items
This is an amazing R100S. The bike revs so much better than any other BMW twin I've ridden because of the machined flywheel. It runs beautifully and handles better than most. Every electrical switch functions properly, every light is in working order and even the clock works as it should. If you look closely at the pics you will even see a period correct Grateful Dead decal on the rear fender which I didn't have the heart to remove. : ) I would not hesitate to hop on the bike and head across the country tomorrow. She is beautiful and dependable and runs better than most R100's. One of the things I love is that it still has it's original CA blue license plate. Registration is current through May of 2017. Clear clean title is ready to transfer to the new owner. I'm only selling her to fund some other projects I want to tackle this winter. I have a 1975 R90S that fills the spot in my garage for a big BMW twin so this one is going to go to a new owner. I'm sure I'm forgetting something but will be happy to answer any questions you may have in a timely manner. Any local bidders are more than welcome to come and take a look at her if that suits you. I've set the reserve at a reasonable level and in line with other nice R100S's that have sold in the last year. Thanks for looking and best of luck with your bidding. You will be delighted with this bike. |

French Moto Website Anticipates Versys 1000 at EICMA 2011
Mon, 24 Oct 2011Musings of a liter-size engined Kawasaki Versys have circulated the web for a few years now, as loyalists of the likable Versys 650, as well as displacement-driven riders waiting in the wings, have pondered the potential of a more powerful adventure bike from Kawasaki that’s in the same league as BMW’s R1200GS and Yamaha’s Super Tenere. Alas, nothing of the sort has ever left the lips of Kawasaki, let alone go into production. Recently, however, the French motorcycle website, Moto-net.com, has produced convincing images that appear like photos of a complete Versys 1000, including matching hard luggage.
