BMW R-Series description

1971 BMW R75/5 in very nice condition. 49,200 miles on this bike. I just completed a 500 mile trip with zero issues. Bike ran perfectly at interstate speeds and in traffic.

Recent upgrades to the bike as follows: New tires and battery. New EBC brake shoes front and rear. New MAC exhaust system. Replaced rear main seal, oil pump seal, clutch pushrod seal, shifter seal, and clutch disc. Upgraded forks to /7 fork tubes and internals. Added late model carbs from an 83 R80 with Bing alcohol free floats. New Corbin seat and good used Wixom saddlebags.

Mechanically, this bike is as good as I can make it.  Cosmetically, the bike is nice. No dents or dings. Paint is very good on frame and fenders. Tank in very good shape, with one small, shallow dent on the lower right near kneepad.  Bike has patina expected in a 46 year old motorcycle with small scratches on top of tank.

NOTE;  Buyer of this motorcycle needs to realize this is a classic motorcycle, 46 years old, and as such, needs care and maintenance.  This is not a modern motorcycle though it is one of the most rideable classics out there. Rare that a classic bike this old can be ridden all day at interstate speeds without fail.  The charging system on older bikes is not up to modern standards. RPMs must be kept above 3000 to enable charging system to meet demands.  Valves need to be set, points need to be maintained, etc approx. every 5000 miles.  I'm not saying this to detract from the motorcycle but buyer needs to know that a classic bike needs to be lovingly maintained to get the most out of it.

Payment shall be made via cash or bank transfer or cashier's check.  Bank transfer and cashier's check MUST be thru Bank of America. Bike will not be released until funds are confirmed.  Sorry, but I have been burned and am very cautious.

Buyer must arrange pickup and shipping. I will assist where needed such as disconnecting battery and draining tank. I will make myself available to shipper for pickup at my location.  I am not able to deliver. I can store for a limited period after payment is complete.

Around the world on a Multistrada

Tue, 07 Jun 2011

Ever since Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman rode their BMW’s around the world it seems anyone with a ‘GS’ has an open ticket to ride around the world and then write about it. And fair enough, if I could afford the bike and the trip then I’d be gone as well. Obviously, BMW reaped the rewards when Ewan and Charlie showcased what their GS could really do, changing BMW’s image from solid but stuffy, to solid and cool overnight.

FIM Updates Superbike Racing Homologation Lists for 2013

Tue, 19 Feb 2013

The International Motorcycling Federation (FIM) has released an updated list of motorcycles homologated for the 2013 Superbike, Supersport, and Superstock racing season. Notable additions include the new BMW S1000RR HP4, the MV Agusta F3 and the Superbike-spec Ducati 1199 Panigale R. To qualify a production-based racebike for FIM homologations, manufacturers have to meet certain production thresholds.

Q3 2013 US Motorcycle Sales Results

Fri, 01 Nov 2013

Motorcycle and scooter sales in the U.S. in 2013 remain consistent with last year’s figures, according to data released by the Motorcycle Industry Council. Several manufacturers blamed poor weather for the poor start this year, and the rebounding sales in the third quarter helped to negate the slow sales from earlier in the year.
