The Background

This bike has been properly maintained since new and has had all of the updates, and especially important a new ABS module. Prior my accident (some fool cut in front of me!!!@#$%^), it rode and ran beautifully, and was in stellar cosmetic condition too.

I never had any problem with it other than the clutch making a screeching noise, which was nicely resolved with a new Barnet Clutch pack and some added oil vent holes in the clutch basket. These bikes aren’t known to be really nice shifting, but between the added ball bearing shift linkage, and the Barnett clutch…….I couldn’t complain, it shifted every bit as well as my older K bikes. The blogs cite a variety of complaints…….this bike exhibited none except the poor shifting which was resolved.

I’m a mechanical engineer, 40 year motorcycle enthusiast and multi BMW K bike owner, and I bought this bike for myself……..I was very happy with it and would probably repair the collision damage myself because the economics really favor it, but I broke both hands and both wrists badly when going down and it will be a while before I can really turn a wrench and ride. So I’m selling it.

Damages

Upon the low speed impact to the left rear of the offending car, the right lip of the bikes’ front wheel caught the rear rim of the car causing the main damages. Then the bike went down on its right side. You can see this in the pictures. Based upon my inspection it needs the following parts:

Parts To Run and Ride:

·         Front Rim – the tire is fine as are all of the brake and axel parts

·         Lower Fork – disconnected from the linkage on top

·         Radiator – small crack at upper mount, right side

·         Head Light – its cracked

Cosmetic Parts:

  • Right Middle Fairing
  • Headlight Fairing – this part can be saved but they are abundant and cheap, so you decide
  • Lower Engine Fairing, Right Half (black, under the engine)
  • Muffler
  • Straighten Brake pedal
  • Clutch Slave Cylinder (really just the housing)
  • Front Seat – it was thrown off and has small tears in the corners
  • Misc plastic bits

As-Is

While I have done my best to describe the damages, I can’t take responsibility for any parts it may need or any damage I’ve failed to describe completely. You are buying AS-IS. Additionally, while I have the CA title in hand and in my name of course, you’ll have to judge for yourself the possibility that the pink slip may be branded in the future. The insurance company never took possession of the bike.

If you are reasonably handy, and have the time to hunt down the used parts (which are cheap, especially if buy from private sellers), you can have a great bike cheap! I’ll add that the BMW paint is easily and impeccably matched out of the can via auto paint/body supply stores. I’ve done it, and especially recommend the water based PPG Envirobase color coat……it matches and works incredibly well.

Could This Innovative New Light Save Your Life?

Thu, 19 Aug 2010

Everyone knows brake lights are to alert drivers behind you, but what about when you roll off the throttle, and tailgating drivers fail to notice your decreasing rate of speed? Would you like them to know you’re decelerating, rather than potentially becoming another statistic? Nikkos Designs of Fort Myers, Fla.

2024 Verge TS Pro Electric Motorcycle Review – Quick Ride

Thu, 20 Jun 2024

First impressions of a unique e-bike from Scandinavia Photos by Nic de Sena Every good story needs a hook, and Verge certainly has one with its hubless rear wheel design. They’re leaning into it so much that even the company T-shirts say, “Reinventing the wheel” on the back. But what is the Verge TS, anyway?

Firefighting Motorcycle

Fri, 17 Apr 2009

Ever had an officer ask you “where’s the fire?” after being pulled over for speeding?  Well now you have a good excuse. This converted BMW R1200RT has two 20 or 25 liter tanks (contain a premix of water and foam) mounted on either side that is connected to a 6.8 liter compressed air tank on the back of the bike that has a 20 to 30 meter hose. They are currently being used in the U.K.
