Description
In 1982 Honda introduced the Ascot, a 500cc single-cylinder roadster that used the basic XR/XL powerplant developed for the '79 model year. And we just took a beautiful, unrestored example in. The engine came with up to-date technological features for the day; including a four-valve head and engine counterbalancers. More important, Honda fitted the street-going FT with electric starting and did away with the kick-start lever altogether. By taking this logical step, Honda produced a bike that appealed to "purists" for its straightforward design, and competed with other 400-500cc bikes in several categories of function. There were several good reasons for producing a single -- reasons which had nothing to do with fashion and everything to do with performance and practicality. As a rule of thumb, it's possible to make a single lighter than a twin; in fact, Honda gave validity to the rule -- the FT at 378 pounds weighed somewhat less than the 400-450cc twins, which weigh anywhere from 390 to 410 pounds, and significantly less than the occasional 500cc twin on the market; the Honda CX for example, weighed in at 486 pounds. Singles are also generally narrower than twins, which allowed Honda to produce a bike with more ground clearance. And in terms of maintenance, a single has one fewer carb and four fewer valves to maintain. Here's a great vintage example of Honda's state of the art for '82 ... in great condition for its age!

Honda’s V-4 History

Tue, 06 Oct 2009

As Honda prepares its new VFR1200 for its official unveiling, the red-wing company has set up a website detailing its long involvement in V-4 engines. It began back in 1979 with the introduction of the NR500 grand prix racebike. Rather than fielding a 500cc two-stroke engine, Honda used a four-stroke oval-piston V-4 motor – essentially a V-8 with four cylinders that could be revved to 19,500 rpm!

2013 Honda CB150R Streetfire Unveiled in Indonesia

Wed, 31 Oct 2012

Honda‘s Indonesian affiliate Astra Honda Motor unveiled a new CB150R Streetfire at the Jakarta Motorcycle Show. At this point, the Streetfire is only destined for the Indonesia market as the naked version of the Honda CBR150R (which itself a smaller version of the CBR250R), but it does give us an idea of what a potential CB250R would look like, if Honda decides to produce one. The Honda CB150R Streetfire is powered by the 150cc liquid-cooled  engine as the CBR150R.
