Steve Jobs: Rest in peace
Thu, 06 Oct 2011Like me you probably discovered the news of Steve Jobs' death on an iPhone, an iPad or iMac.
Years before turning Apple into the cool brand that it is today, Steve Jobs rode round on an old BMW.
Apple said his "brilliance, passion and energy were the source of countless innovations that enrich and improve all of our lives. The world is immeasurably better because of Steve".
You may be thinking that riding an old BMW R60/2 in his youth is a tenuous link, but it is his philosphy on life - highlighted in an inspirational speech at Stanford University in 2005 - that proves that whatever we do we must live life to the full - something that is done on two-wheels.
In it he said: "When I was 17, I read a quote that went something like: "If you live each day as if it was your last, someday you'll most certainly be right." It made an impression on me, and since then, for the past 33 years, I have looked in the mirror every morning and asked myself: "If today were the last day of my life, would I want to do what I am about to do today?" And whenever the answer has been "No" for too many days in a row, I know I need to change something." (Full transcript here)
Go out, ride and enjoy your life.
