AGV Releases Rossi-Replica Corsa Turtle Helmet
Thu, 01 May 2014Hot on the heels of my Top 10 favorite helmets list, AGV has just released a new AGV Rossi replica helmet to the market. On this occasion, it’s the Corsa Turtle helmet, with the graphics used by “The Doctor” at last year’s Mugello MotoGP round.
The handiwork of Drudi Performance, the design features the tartaruga (“turtle” in Italian), a character recognizable to aficionados of No. 46: When he was a youngster, Valentino’s mother gave him a toy turtle that he mounted on his helmet. The plaything is long gone, but a small turtle icon has regularly appeared on his helmets ever since; he even has the character tattooed on his hip. For Mugello 2013, the turtle got a much more prominent placement, as Rossi poked fun at his early-season performance. The design also includes Rossi’s familiar bulldogs Cesare and Cecilia (this time wearing turtle shells), along with a miniature figure of Rossi pursuing his top competitors.
As for the helmet itself, the Corsa is one of AGV’s top-shelf pieces, and was developed through the same AGV Extreme Standards process as the Pista GP. Designed, developed and tested with the help of Valentino Rossi, and made in Italy, it features an outer shell made of SSL (Super Super Light) composite fiber (aramid and carbon fiber), as well as a wider field of vision than the GP-Tech it replaces. Aerodynamic performance is enhanced by the rear spoiler and smaller front and lateral sections, and fit is customizable via replacement of the cheek pads.
Available in XS-XXL, the turtle helmet will retail for $899.95. For more information, visit store.agv.com.
