1972 Triumph T120R Bonneville 650 Trike

Classic 70s Brit Iron Trike, Rolling Project

NO RESERVE - YOU BID, YOU WIN!

This is a "bitsa" rolling trike project, the engine is a '72 Bonneville, the frame is a custom made rigid with live axle, and the forks, front end is from a 60s BSA.

I rescued the bike from having a totally rusted set of forks, mismatched rear wheels (one donut spare tire), and parts hung on it with wire and zip-ties. I've re-assembled it with a “period-correct” (late 60s / early 70s) British front end, seat and “peanut” tank, and a few period aftermarket bits. It is pretty much a typical example of a 70s "Brit Iron" trike from the good old days.

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION – Crank, cams, clutch, alternator & tranny all rotate. Dual Mikuni carburetors, 4-speed transmission, duplex primary chain with multi-plate clutch. As far as I know, the internals are original, and probably need overhaul. Missing clutch pressure plate & mounting hardware, intermediate timing pinion, and kickstart return springs. Included but not installed: used piston set, kickstart lever, pushrods and cam followers.

CHASSIS & SUSPENSION – Custom built tubular steel trike frame with “live” axle (both rear wheels driven simultaneously), extended telescopic forks (need overhaul), no rear suspension. Does not appear to have been wrecked at any time.

WHEELS & BRAKES - Front wheel is in fair shape, as are the brakes. They will work as-is, but are rough looking. Rear wheels are Lincoln “snowflake” aluminum alloy. Tires definitely need replacement (with new tubes). Rear brake not configured or installed.

BODYWORK & CYCLE PARTS - Gas tank is rough. Chrome oil tank is nice; mount is nominal. Seat is a cool 70s throwback “King & Queen”. No fenders included. Lighting is rough, mismatched, in fair shape. Keg is loose on the bike, I didn't want to weld on it or drill it; I will secure it for shipping.

CONTROLS & RUNNING GEAR - I can provide several different rise handlebars as the buyer prefers (they are 1”, but 7/8 are easily adapted with existing OEM Triumph “P” clamps). Rough but useable chrome steel levers & dual-pull throttle are included (not pictured). Will need all new cables. Forward controls need fettling.

ELECTRICAL - Headlight and taillight are rough but will work. Alternator, zener diode regulator, and rectifier included (not pictured), assumed working. No battery, runs on alternator and 2MC capacitor with points ignition and dual 12 volt coils. Rough but correct basic wiring on the bike (not pictured, but it has been installed).

OTHER INFO

BILL OF SALE ONLY. I can obtain a clear Texas title, but it takes time and costs money not included in this sale.

AS-IS, WHERE-IS, no warranty, no refunds. It is what it is, and what you see is what you get. I'm including plenty of photos, they are decent quality and show what's what.

SHIPPING NOT INCLUDED - I recommend Keyboard Motorcycle Shippers and/or J.C. Motors for door-to-door transportation. Shipping from south Texas 78043. I have a ramp and will load the bike in my driveway if buyer wants to pick it up locally. I will deliver as far as the Waco, Corpus Christi, McAllen or Houston areas for an additional fee (about fifty cents per mile, round trip).

PAYMENT TERMS - Deposit required within 24 hours of auction end. If you are going to be out of town or otherwise unable to make the deposit, there is no need to bid on the bike. Full payment required within 10 days of auction end, before bike will be released to shipper/buyer. I will store the bike for up to one year at no charge. DEPOSIT IS NON-REFUNDABLE.

BOTTOM LINE - No fluff, no hype. I've been selling bikes on e-bay for almost 10 years with total satisfaction and zero claims. Since I'm starting the bidding low and there is no reserve, I have no reason to misrepresent anything about the bike. This is a decent “period” custom project.

Ask all the questions you want, I'll answer them as best I can. Thanx for bidding.

2010 Triumph Speed Triple exhausts tested

Thu, 17 Jun 2010

Over the last month I’ve been busy trying out some of the exhausts available for the Speed Triple. Apart from being very easy to fit, they all claim power gains of around 8bhp and give substantial weight savings. It’s worth noting at this point that Triumph only recommend Arrow cans and discourage the fitting of slip on exhausts especially if they are not mapped to the bike.
