Suzuki TC 120 description

For Sale:

Very nice condition ALL ORIGINAL 1970 Suzuki TC 120. True survivor. Everything operates as it should, starts cold first kick, shifts nicely through all gears and runs great! 120 CC's, 2 Stroke, 3 (really 6 gears with dual range setting)speed transmission with a hi and low range setting for hills and off roading This bike is in amazing condition,  very rare motorcycle, super fun and lightweight. Great collectors item or fun weekend around town rider (almost too nice to take on the trails!) I have put 20 miles on bike since restoration, just cruising around my neighborhood in Brooklyn. I can't even begin to describe how much of a head turner this bike is! I love this bike, and would love to keep it but have too many motorcycles.  The bike runs great! Amazing power for a small engine.

Brand new battery, fresh spark plug, has original tool kit. fresh gear oil, fresh 2 stroke oil (auto lube, no pre mix, and yes auto lube works as it should). Comes with original sales brochure, parts catalog, service manual info, copies of original review of motorcycle. I have a clean Vermont title in my name.

Restoration:

The bike was complete when purchased, however was in need of a good cleaning, chrome and aluminum showed light rust and oxidation, but cleaned up very nicely with a little steel wool and A LOT of elbow grease. All chrome was removed and cleaned with 0000 steel wool then polished.  Gas tank was cleaned with rubbing compound but not repainted, shows some blemishes here and there but ABSOLUTELY NO dents, original paint shines nicely, love the origional paint and decal and wanted to preserve, petcock removed, rebuilt, and polished. Both wheels were removed and disassembled 100% to clean internal components, hub and grease bearings. Tires are ORIGINAL! They show no drying or cracking whatsoever, hold air just fine. inner tubes have recently been replaced. Both drum brakes are original but have plenty of "meat" left on them. Chrome rims, spokes, and wheel hub outers have been thoroughly cleaned and polished. Front forks have been rebuilt and fresh oil added. Handlebars removed, top triple tree cleaned and polished, steering nut cleaned and re torqued.   Headlight disassembled, new 6v dual filament  bulb inner wires checked for connection and re crimped. Skid Plate removed for cleaning, engine removed and disassembled (except top end, runs great and has great compression, did not open) Side covers removed and oil pump cleaned (works perfectly) crankcase opened and cleaned inside (gears look perfect) posi-select dual range transmission disassembled andre-lubed (works as it should for hi and low range) Exhaust removed stripped to bare metal and painted with hi temp engine enamel matte black, chrome exhaust heat shield polished and shines nicely, all hardware in tact. Oil tank, battery box, and air filter box were removed stripped to bare metal and repainted low gloss black enamel. I found NOS oil tank stickers "TC 120" for oil tank and applied (cool feature about this bike, no side covers, oil tank itself was painted and decals applied directly to tank, super cool!) Oil tank was cleaned inside and out and oil line, banjo bolt and fittings were cleaned and tested. Oil pump works as it should.  Carbs 100% disassembled and ultrasonically cleaned, new carb bowl gasket used. Rear shocks removed, uppers stripped to bare metal painted semi gloss black and chrome was thoroughly cleaned and polished. Rear swing-arm removed, stripped to bare metal and re painted, swing-arm picot greased. Every single nut and bolt came off this motorcycle. The frame and gas tank were left with their origional paint. All chrome was removed individually hand cleaned, polished and reinstalled The gas tank shows some blemishes/scuffing, but has NO dents. Gas tank is very clean inside and has NO rust. The frame shows very nice as well has original black paint, frame has minor scuffing and some VERY light rust blemishes here and there.  This was a very nice restoration process, the bike initially had little wear, but was filthy, and missing a battery. A LOT of time went into this bike as the photos show. The only parts purchased to repair this motorcycle were: a new spark plug, new side decals, kick start rubber, and a carb gasket.

History:

This bike was acquired from it's original owner's son in Vermont.  I was told it was used on and around a farm property for light work and transportation. It was out of use for quite some time but stored indoors. At the time I purchased it it was not running, showed light wear and tear, and was fairly dirty but appeared to be complete and all original. I liked the look of the bike at first sight, I've never seen one before.  I decided to purchase, it seemed to be an excellent candidate for restoration since it was complete, low miles and had good compression.

Goodbye RM85 Suzuki

Tue, 10 May 2011

An old friend dropped in this weekend, on his way back from an arse-killing 4,500 mile ride to Estoril and back to watch the MotoGP race. He has only ever ridden Harley chops and old stuff with the exception of his vague nod at practicality and modernity - an ancient, very, very high mileage R1100GS BMW. I made him a brew and some pasta arrabiatta then made him ride my 2011 Fireblade.

MotoGP should return to Suzuka

Thu, 14 Jul 2011

Suzuka was always one of the great circuits; unfortunately the Japanese track was dropped following the tragic death of Daijiro Kato in 2003 as the course was deemed too tight and dangerous for the rapid four-strokes. Owned by Honda, Suzuka is a magical place combining arching S-bends from the start of the lap, high-speed in the middle and finished off with the technical and oft racing deciding final chicane, the location of many fantastic last lap battles. However the death of Kato, and Honda’s major hope of a Japanese champion, placed a dark cloud over the 5.807 kilometres of tarmac.
