1973 Maico MC440
74.5 GP frame spec - Wheelsmith
I am listing this Maico and several other high-quality restorations, for a collector in CA who is selling on consignment with me. The bikes were all built at vintagemotofactory dot com - a restoration shop specializing in historically significant bikes from the '60s -'80s. This Maico, and his other bikes are all recently commissioned builds - not older restorations - and include a 1978 Harley Davidson MX250, a 1976 Suzuki RM250A and a 1974 Bultaco 360 Pursang. Visit vintagemotofactory dot com to learn more. In this auction, you are bidding on the exquisite 1973 Maico MC440 - a museum quality bike. This listing may end early with a direct sale, so don't hesitate to call me if you are interested in the motorcycle. Two beautiful Honda CR Elsinores (125 & 250) and the Husqvarna 250 MAG have already been sold from the collection in this manner.
About this motorcycle:
Complete mechanical and cosmetic restoration. 1973 frame professionally modified to the 1974.5 GP frame specifications. This is a performance modification made to '73 Maico frames by companies like Wheelsmith and others when Maico introduced the revolutionary 74.5 GP bike.
The bike was built to a high standard. Special attention was paid to the fit, finish, and appearance of the entire bike, but like all restorations, this is not a perfect motorcycle. Not every imperfection was sanded, painted or completely polished out of the finish of the bike. The small imperfections that remain are a nod toward the racing history and heritage that makes these motorcycles special. The approach to this restoration was to properly under-restore as opposed to over-restore the bike.
Of particular note are the period-correct Koni "poppy bodied" shocks,Wheelsmith footpegs and a reproduction Wheelsmith expansion chamber. A polished aluminum GP tank is also installled, in lieu of the larger original tank.
Note: The bike is sold with a Bill of Sale - No Title.
International Buyers: We welcome international buyers and can get a legal title for the bike (for export) at an additional cost of $250 USD. The process takes 4-5 weeks and involves an inspection and submitting paperwork to the appropriate government agencies. We will store the bike while this paperwork is being processed for you, but the bike and title must be paid for in full.
Shipping: The bike is located in Blythe, CA 92225. Make your shipping arrangements accordingly. Shipping is the buyer's expense, but I know of several good shipping companies. The bike can be delivered anywhere in the lower 48 States for $250-550 dollars. You are welcome to make arrangements with your own shipper and we will meet them.
A non-refundable $500 PayPal deposit is required within 48 hours of the end of auction.
For indications of interest, offers on this bike or any of the others, or to ask questions, please call Bill at 805 708-1129.
