Other MAICO 79 250 MAGNUM II description
I have had this MAICO since 1984. I bought two of them at the time. I kept this one because it runs so much better than any stock one. It was ported and polished by one of the top Maico tuners in the midwest for a top rider of the time. It truly is as fast as bikes 15 years newer. I have ridden the bike in my favorite sand area in Nebraska and it truly is a blast to ride. I never have opened this motor up to actually look it over, I always wanted to, it just never needed it. The bike still sounds so sweet and has great compression. It always starts in one or two kicks. Super stable, turns great, so easy to ride. I would have loved to have raced this bike when it was new. This bike was set up correctly ,when new and it shows the way it has held up. The motor mounts are super solid, no loose bolts that can cause wear. The things that need work; Fork needs new seals, bushings and springs are good. Original Corte Cosso shocks need rebuilt, springs are good, Has lost fluid. Plastic needs replaced. Original Falk rear fender has some cracks. Front is a faded Preston Petty. Seat cover is shot. Seat foam and base is in great shape. The original Maico pipe is very good, only one small dent at the lowest part of the pipe 8" or so from the exhaust port. The pipe mount near where the silencer meets has a crack in it that will be easy to fix. It has a aluminum silencer on it, it has some dents and needs repacked. The fuel tank has two shallow dents, One above where it meets the seat, a shallow dent 3" or so in diameter, from you no what happens when you get to far forward and land from a had landing!! I still remember that!! The other is along the left side of the tank,a shallow dent from my knee along the side of the tank. I'm sure someone can repair these to look like new. Yhe Engine is in near perfect shape. No broken or cracked fins. Side cases are super strait. No problems at countershaft area near mag. cover. The clutch has never slipped, I always changed fluid regularly. Transmission shifts perfect, the way Maicos are known to. There are a few small dings in the aluminum backing plate. You will love this bike, I have! I will require a $250.00 deposit through paypal within 24 hours of auction close. All shipping costs are the responsibility of the buyer. I will help to get the bike in ready condition for your shipper. Good Luck Bidding! PLEASE CHECK MY OTHER AUCTIONS, I HAVE A MAICO 1974 GP 440, IN PARTS CATEGORY. AND A 1972 MAICO 250 SQUARE BARREL ALSO TO LIST SOON.
