Kawasaki Other description

Up for sale is a Kawasaki Z1 drag bike. Engine is a 1973 Kawasaki Z1 engine # Z1E129082. I do not know the specifics of the internals of the engine. I believe is is a Z1 bottom end, with a J model Valve cover but I do not know what cylinder head it it. I know there is porting in the intake but I have not removed any other engine parts to examine the clutch, exhaust ports, cams, bore size or transmission. I purchased four drag bikes from this individual and the others had extensive work done to them. I would assume this one does as well but I have not verified so am selling it as unknown.

Here is what I do know it has:

MSD Ignition
Dyna Coils
MSD Two Step
Aftermarket Header welded to Supertrapp exhaust (12 discs)
Air Shifter
Akront 18 x 5.75 rear wheel
Air Clutch
Fiberglass tank
Fiberglass Tail section with brake light
Front Wheel is a one off made by the bikes original owner. It is an aluminum wheel mated to a Honda MB5 front hub using the MB5 brake disc and is super light.
Triple trees appear to be Cerriani or Betor with unknown forks (has been cut out to install air guage)

I purchased this bike and 3 others from the widow of the builder and racer who was a welding instructor and machinist. He raced for many years and knew what he was doing. That said a few things will need to be done to clean it up and make it ready to race.
-The bike had been sitting for a while, all I did was clean the carbs and fire it up. It runs well but doesn't idle. This could be because the carbs need more cleaning or its just the way its set up because it runs well off idle.
-The welds all are strong but it isnt a show bike by any means, I do not intend to represent it as so.
-The wiring could stand to be cleaned up, the electrics all work but there are some things that probably wouldn't pass tech. There is an MSD "RPM Activated Switch" wired in but I do not know what it controls.
-The air clutch locks in when the button is pressed but I do not know how the air shifter operates. Everything appears to be hooked up I just don't know how it all works.
-Tires hold air but are cracking and would not be safe to race on.

I do have some additional motor parts (cylinders, cranks, etc) and sets of carbs that are KZ Z1 related that I will include if the winner is interested. I do not have enough room for pictures of that stuff but I can send those and more pictures of the bike if anyone needs them.

Although it says clear title there is no title. This is for race use only.

I have tried to cover everything but if you have questions please ask! The bike looks great and motor runs strong. With a little cleanup you would be ready to race or just put it up on display.

I would prefer the bike be picked up locally in Roanoke, VA if you need it shipped I can work with whoever you choose to get it loaded. You need to set up a shipper and work with them and I will do all that I can. I can also hold the bike for a while if needed.

$500 deposit required within 48 hours and full payment due in 7 days or before release.

WSBK 2013: Jerez Race Report

Mon, 21 Oct 2013

Eugene Laverty did everything he could, scoring a pair of race wins but it was not enough as Tom Sykes rode smartly and conservatively at the season finale in Spain, securing his first ever World Superbike Championship. Sykes landed in Jerez with a 37-point lead over Laverty and a 38-point lead over Sylvain Guintoli. While Laverty battled Marco Melandri to win Race One, Sykes coasted comfortably in third for most of the race to score 16 points, enough to clinch the title.

EICMA 2013: 2014 Kawasaki Z1000 First Impressions Video

Tue, 05 Nov 2013

“It looks kind of angry!” That pretty much sums up what Editor-in-Chief Kevin Duke thinks of Kawasaki‘s newly redesigned Z1000 and its “sugomi” design philosophy. And for those of you who feel turned off by today’s machines and their dependance on the latest electronics, Kawasaki says the Z1000 does not have traction control because they want to keep it raw and untamed. Marco Melandri earned BMW its second ever World Superbike victory to move into second place in the championship standings behind Max Biaggi in the series’ only stop in the United States. Melandri won a red-flagged Race Two at Utah’s Miller Motorsports Park after finishing second to defending WSBK Champion Carlos Checa in Race One to give him 142.5 points on the season, tied with Kawasaki‘s Tom Sykes but behind Aprilia‘s Biaggi who leads the way with 160.5 points.
