Kawasaki KZ650C description

Very Cool, Vintage 1979 Kawasaki KZ650

Clean Title, no signs of any major work or accident. Does not leak.  Always starts within a few kicks (electric starts when engine is warm).  Everything works, currently licensed in California. Plenty of tread on tires (about 300 miles on them).

However, recently ran on low oil. Engine started ticking, so I went back home. Drained the oil, and only half the reservoir was full. I changed the oil around 200 miles previously. It was burning oil quicker than expected during riding. I changed the oil and ticking went away. There is damage to the engine, but hard to tell how severe without opening up the engine. It still starts and runs like before. Only difference I can feel is the slight ticking when 'aggressively' accelerating. With conservative riding, I cannot tell the different. Though I still wanted to add this disclaimer.

The engine seems to run okay after running on low oil, wiring is in good condition, all electrical and switches work, disc brakes work great, seat is in perfect condition, electric start plus kick start, classic style. The only after market part is the Vince & Hines chrome 4-into-1 exhaust system ($500).

I made a YouTube video to show a walk-around of the bike and also a start-up. The video was taken on 6/10/16. eBay doesn't allow me to include links in the description, but if you search in YouTube for "1979 Kawasaki KZ650 - For Sale - Blake" it should come up.

Thanks for looking, and happy bidding!

WSBK 2013: Assen Race Report

Mon, 29 Apr 2013

Tom Sykes earned his first win of the 2013 season and came a hair short of a double victory at the World Superbike Championship round at Assen in the Netherlands. Traditionally a fast starter and qualifier, Sykes started on the pole once again at Assen and had strong starts in both races. But unlike the first two rounds where he started strong before fading, the Kawasaki factory rider was able to remain at the front in both races at Assen and earn some valuable championship points.

AMA Sportbike: 2012 Daytona 200 Results

Tue, 20 Mar 2012

The 2012 Daytona 200 delivered another fairy-tale finish with underdog privateer Joey Pascarella and the Project 1 Atlanta team fending off a pack of three other racers to win by a slim 0.048 second margin. Competing in just his first Daytona 200, 19-year-old Pascarella from Victorville, Calif., held the lead for 41 out of 57 laps to finish first ahead of a last year’s winner Jason DiSalvo while Cameron Beaubier squeezed by 2010 Daytona Sportbike Champion Martin Cardenas in a photo-finish to take third. For the Project 1 Atlanta team, the win marked a dramatic turnaround from a let down in 2011.

Old boys up front and where are the new 600 Gixers?

Mon, 28 Feb 2011

As I’ve been gagging for the new race season to kick off so it was almost a pleasure getting up at stupid 0 clock to watch the World Superbike Championship  opener at Phillip Island last weekend. I have to say Messrs Burnicle and Whitham were on form although I was disappointed there were none of the usual verbal attacks on each other that always add to the entertainment.    I’m sure they will put things right soon but the world superbike regulars must have been disheartened that Moto GP veterans nailed five of the six available rostrum slots.
