Husqvarna Boyd Engineering description

NO RESERVE AUCTION

1973 Boyd Engineering CZ 380/400

1973 CZ 380 MX Boyd Engineering - Possibly one of the rarest CZ's on the planet?

During the 1960's and 70's, CZ's were considered some of the best motocrossers you could buy (and still are today). But they had 2 problems---they were heavy (mild steel frames), and although they were great on a tight twisty MX track, they we're not so great on high speed grand prix or desert racing venues. Boyd wanted to fix this so he built a lightweight chromeoly frame, made the steering head adjustable (out of aluminum), and added length to his lightweight custom aluminum swingarm. This saved 20 TWENTY lbs. over stock, and by adjusting your steering rake in or out you could now race the SAME BIKE on either the tightest MX track, or high speed desert course with great results.

Here is a Boyd Engineering (prior to Stellings introduction) model 981 CZ400MX that has been fully restored to museum quality. Frame & all related bits were powdercoated black. All aluminum bits were bead blasted and left in their natural state. Perfect OEM coffin tank & shock springs were powdercoated red. All bolts cad plated to new.PLEASE TAKE YOUR TIME AND VIEW ALL PHOTOS WITH EBAY'S ZOOM FEATURE. I spared no expense in this restoration. You will be amazed at it's utter trickness, along with it's beautiful condition. LOOKS BETTER IN PERSON than my photos can show. It is simply beautiful---NO DISAPPOINTMENTS. This is 'man cave' or living room art.

These custom built frames & aluminum swingarms were quite unique and a real technological marvel back then, as steering rake could be adjusted in for motocross or raked out for high speed grand prix tracks or desert racing. Footpegs and brake arms are unique and I consider them to be a work of art unto themselves. Brand new NOS Trelleborg tubes and tires. Rebuilt suspension including Falta forks and Koni shocks. Rebuilt wheels with new stainless spokes, rebuilt magnesium hubs painted gold, and polished Akront rims. Custom 2 piece coned pipe is brand new. Custom seat is all new. New NOS chromed CZ bars with perches. Folding shift lever. Billet aluminum gas cap and front number plate brackets. New reproduction CZ shiney plastic & number plates, new cables, new Oury grips, new DID Gold chain, etc. Betor 35mm triple clamps. Motor checks out to be a low mileage original currently at standard bore w/clean bore & nice piston/rings. Original Jikov carb was rebuilt. Plastic lightweight works style airbox with K&N filter.

This bike is one of a kind and quite a marvel just to look at. This has got to be the coolest vintage CZ on the planet. I have only ever seen or even heard of one other Boyd CZ in my life, and it looked no where near as nice as this. This is probably the best vintage Boyd & Stellings motocross bike in existence. Here is your once in a lifetime chance for you to get a bike like this added to your collection. Don't miss out. Being sold to highest bidder. If you really want it then please bid high and bid often--I really doubt that a collectible of this caliber will go cheap.

Small arrow

Husqvarna has expanded its family of “black and white arrows” with the 701 Vitpilen, which, as it turns out, is not the last in the company's line-up. The Swedish brand is also preparing to release a 125cc Vitpilen 401 model. And given that the KTM Duke range also has a 200cc variant, we can assume that the family, which has not yet entered the assembly line, will soon grow to five models.

Wed, 18 May 2011

This uber rare 1954 AJS E95, aka The Porcupine, may become the most expensive motorcycle in the world. World-famous auction house, Bonhams, has recently announced that it will handle auctioning of an ultra-rare 1954 AJS E95 during the Pebble Beach Car Week held annually in August at the Quail Lodge Golf Club in Carmel, Calif. Bonhams estimates that due to the rarity of the E95 (only four were completed by British brand AJS) it may see a bid as high as $750,000.

Movie: The John Penton Story

Wed, 06 Mar 2013

John Penton was one of the most influential figures in the development of off-road motorcycle racing in America during the 1960s and ’70s. His life’s story is triumphant and tragic. When his attempts to convince Husqvarna to produce a smaller, lighter motorcycle fell on deaf ears, Penton created his own design and commissioned KTM, a small moped and bicycle maker in Austria, to build it. The motorcycle was an instant success in off-road competition and led KTM to expand its efforts in the motorcycle realm, initially in conjunction with Penton and ultimately on its own.
