Harley-Davidson Touring description

Here we have a well-preserved 2004 Harley-Davidson Road King Classic in the elegant Smokey Gold and Black two-tone color scheme, plus a pile of extra equipment to make it the perfect touring machine.  I'm selling it on behalf of my father, who is the original owner; he bought the bike brand new in 2004 and has ridden it less than 14,000 miles.

This motorcycle has been painstakingly looked after by a licensed mechanical engineer, kept in a garage at all times, and generally coddled for its whole life.  It has the reduced effort clutch kit, lowered suspension front and rear, heated hand grips, the extra rear lighting kit, and Screaming Eagle mufflers, all genuine H-D accessories.  (The original parts have been retained and will be included with the sale, just in case they're wanted.)  In addition, we are including a TourPak hard touring trunk and a matching set of hard bags (originally sourced from an Electra Glide, they match the TourPak and bolt right onto the Road King), plus the removable soft luggage that goes into said bags, for maximum touring security and convenience.  The hard touring gear alone was worth at least $2,000 when it was new and is in excellent condition.  We also have a factory service and repair manual which will be included with the package.  A touring seat (which complements the TourPak), detachable passenger backrest, and a solo seat are also included, along with the stock one, which is currently on the bike.  We'll also include an extra engine guard with touring footrests.

Full disclosure: The bike will need a new battery, and the rear tire should be replaced.  My father hasn't ridden it for four summers now (which is why he's finally decided to part with it), though he has started it routinely, kept the tank full and changed the fuel regularly, and otherwise made certain that it's in good working order.

The motorcycle is garaged in West Enfield, Maine.  Buyer is responsible for making arrangements to get it from there to wherever it's needed; we're happy to help the shipper of choice get it packed up and taken away, and will provide secure packaging for the included accessories.  We're also open to discussing delivery within northern New England, if the buyer agrees to cover our costs.

Payment should be by certified check; buyer may choose to use an escrow service, but assumes responsibility for associated costs.

To summarize: If you are the winning bidder on this auction, you will receive:

 - A one-owner 2004 Harley-Davidson Road King Classic with many improvements and fewer than 14,000 miles on it;
 - A full set of hard touring luggage;
 - A touring seat and bonus solo seat;
 - An extra engine guard with touring footrests; and
 - The owner's manual and factory service manual.

All parts and accessories are genuine Harley-Davidson equipment.

The best part of summer and early fall are still to come, and this Harley is a mighty comfortable throne from which to rule it.  Bid early, bid often!

Antiques Roadshow Visits Sturgis Motorcycle Museum

Wed, 17 Apr 2013

While on location in the Black Hills of South Dakota, PBS’s Antiques Roadshow stopped by the Sturgis Motorcycle Museum to film a segment on motorcycle toys. In the segment host Mark L. Walberg talks with vintage toy expert Noel Barrett about various American-made, antique, cast iron motorcycle toys. Barrett shares the history of these early toys, some tips about how one might tell a reproduction from the real thing, and offers his valuation on several highlighted examples. Walberg also takes a ride on a vintage Harley-Davidson Servi-Car.

Harley-Davidson Ring Saved from a Filthy Fate

Wed, 07 Sep 2011

Here’s a story that might seem humorous at first but turns out to be a testament to a man’s love of motorcycling and the memories of a fallen friend. Ed Spalding of Terrace, British Columbia, Canada, and his close friend Roger Bourgoin bought Harley-Davidson motorcycles in 1991. To celebrate their purchases, the two also bought a pair of gold rings.
