Ducati Supersport description

If you are looking at this listing you probably already know the history of these bikes and why they are sought after by collectors. This particular example can be either a trailer queen or ridden. The 1977 model is generally grouped into the range of 1975-1978 900 SS bikes. These bikes all had blue and silver livery and retained Borrani alloy wheels with painted spokes. Segmenting the model run further, the 1976 and 1977 bikes had their footpegs mounted slightly lower and more forward than earlier and later model years. The intent was to provide a slightly more comfortable riding position. This particular example was in the collection of a well known Ducati collector. About four years ago he had the bike cosmetically restored by a respected vintage bike restoration shop. As part of the process, the bike was painted by Scott Moore of Fast Finish. The paint is correct in terms of colors and it has no nicks or scratches. This bike has the typical "race kit" that came in the crate when they were delivered new into the U.S. The kit consisted of 40mm Dellortos and Conti mufflers. Some of these kits also came with "race cams". I do not know what cams are in this bike, however bidders should know that all the appropriate frame/suspension and engine fasteners have been properly drilled for safety wire, suggesting this bike may have seen some race/track time. The lead seal on the engine cases is not intact. Since acquiring the bike two and a half years ago, I recommissioned it to be ridden. Notable work completed includes: • Installed Sasche Electronic ignition and Dyna S coils/wires • Rebuilt carbs and installed new intake manifold insulators • Completed valve adjustment by experienced vintage Ducati mechanic (table of before and after valve clearances will be provided plus all shims) • New Galfer "Green" brake pads, front and rear • Bevel Heaven Case Saver • Brancato extended clutch actuator arm and oil filter magnet platform • Adjustable Tommaselli clip-ons (and new/longer brake line and clutch cable) • LED instrument lights for ignition, high and low beams (much brighter) • Avon RoadRider tires and new battery Everything on the bike works properly and it runs strong and still looks terrific. It does not leak any oil. The Sasche ignition system made a huge difference in the ease of starting (first or second kick) and a much more stable idle. It also provides multiple ignition advance curves that are far superior to the original Ducati Electronica system. I have ridden the bike about 1000 miles and it now has roughly 10,000 miles on the odometer. In addition to what is shown in the pictures, the following Original parts will be included with the bike: • Factory air boxes and filters as well as velocity stacks (though the latter are not originals as they are aluminum whereas the originals were plastic) • LaFranconi mufflers (not in good shape) • Clutch actuator arm (short) • Entire Ducati Electonica ignition system • Clip-ons (with shorter brake line clutch cable) • Instrument lights This bike is located in the greater NYC area and I would be happy to show it to any interested party.
