 Description:
With Aprilia, a stable, race ready chassis has always been assured, but outright power was always lagging behind the competition. That all changed when Aprilia released this, the 180 horsepower RSV4-R! Starting with an all new in 2009 V4 engine (the only commercially available V4 engined Sportsbike in the world), the Aprilia RSV4 has easily carved a name for itself as the most rewarding of all modern Superbikes in production today. With numerous "Best Superbike" and even a few "Bike of the Year" honors, the RSV4 has been praised for its superior approach to all aspects of modern Superbike riding, and racing. With unique spur gear driven exhaust cams, narrow angle V cylinder arrangement, and Magneti Marelli fuel and ignition management, the RSV4 not only delivers power, but does so from an engine that is dimensionally smaller, and lighter than any previous Aprilia 1000cc engine.

Those are all good things, but what is the bike like to ride? Judging from the praise lauded upon it from former Grand Prix champions, the RSV4 impresses on every level. With it's hard won Grand Prix success Aprilia has learned how to make a motorcycle that effectively communicates the traction and grip levels to the rider (regardless of skill level), while providing a feel that allows for faster and faster cornering with exceptional "at-the-limit" chassis communication. This excellent "feel" from the chassis has been a staple of all Aprilia sporting motorcycles, but now that envelope has been pushed even further with Aprilia's industry leading Aprilia Performance Ride Control (APRC) system. This multi-tiered system not only offers smoothed traction control intervention (no harsh cuts!), but also offers Wheelie Control and Launch Control, all with various settings depending on rider preferences or road conditions. This 2013 RSV4-R not only features APRC, but also has ABS braking developed by Bosch of Germany. The RSV4's ABS system is the smallest on the market and also features three select-able thresholds for the ABS application. Engine, Chassis, Electronics, and Superb Brakes: The RSV4-R will communicate the riding experience to you in ways that you have never before thought possible! /font>

2010 Aprilia RSV4R Engine Failure Delays Press Launch [video]

Wed, 28 Oct 2009

Aprilia cut short its launch event for the new RSV4R at Italy’s Mugello circuit as not one, not two, not three, not even four but FIVE pre-production models suffered engine failure. Motorcycle.com contributor Tor Sagen was at Mugello in Tuscany and was scheduled to do a few laps on the world-class circuit on the RSV4R, a lower-spec version of the Aprilia RSV4 Factory. Tor reports the engine problems were being attributed to the conrods from the first batch of 50 pre-production engines.

How I'll remember Marco

Tue, 25 Oct 2011

I think we'll all be mourning the loss of Marco Simoncelli for a long time yet; his full potential will remain an unanswerable topic of many pub debates for years to come. But one thing's for sure: he was unique and this year he injected so much energy, plenty of controversy and a whole load of 'what ifs' to the sport. I must admit, for years I used to sacrifice whatever was happening on a Sunday to make sure I could watch the GP but this year I haven't seen every race, it just hasn't been the same: Stoner has been dominant, the grid has been embarrassingly low on numbers, Rossi has been absent and the battles have - in general - not been memorable.

Paris Hilton’s Race Team Might Actually Be Good

Wed, 16 Feb 2011

When news first emerged that Paris Hilton was getting into the Grand Prix racing business, the response from fans of the motorcycle racing ranged from utter disdain to hope that the celebutante’s involvement would raise the profile of the sport. Whether you dread the image of a sparkly pink carbon fiber fairing or welcome any infusion of funding and support for racing, the one thought that may not have crossed your mind was “what if the team turns out to be pretty good?” Based on the results of a recent 125cc Grand Prix pre-season test, that might be the case. Maverick Viñales of the SuperMartxe VIP by Paris Hilton team had the second fastest laptime from the three-day test at Spain’s Valencia circuit, just 0.1 seconds behind the leader Nico Terol of Bancaja Aspar.
